Wheels/Tires - Kawasaki 1400GTR Service Manual

Wheels/Tires

Tire pressure should be checked before every ride to ensure it is within the recommended range for optimal handling and tire life.

Signs of tire wear include reduced tread depth, uneven wear patterns, cracks, cuts, and visible cords. Worn tires should be replaced immediately to ensure safety.

Inspect the wheels for damage by checking for cracks, bends, or dents. Also, ensure the spokes (if applicable) are tight and the rims are true.

To balance motorcycle tires, use a tire balancing stand. Rotate the wheel and allow it to come to a stop. Mark the lowest point, add a weight to the opposite side, and repeat until the wheel stops at random positions, indicating balance.

The wheel bearings should be inspected every 12,000 km (7,500 miles) or if there are signs of play or roughness when spinning the wheel.

To replace a tire, deflate it completely, break the bead, remove the tire from the rim using tire irons, lubricate the new tire, and install it onto the rim. Ensure it is seated correctly and inflate to the recommended pressure.

Check for proper tire alignment by ensuring the front and rear wheels are in line. Use a straight edge or alignment tool to verify that the wheels are parallel and the axles are aligned correctly.

The recommended tire pressure for the Kawasaki 1400GTR is typically 42 psi for the front tire and 42 psi for the rear tire. Always refer to the owner's manual for the exact specifications.

Inspect the tire tread depth using a tread depth gauge. Insert the gauge into the tread grooves and measure the depth. Replace the tire if the tread depth is below the recommended minimum, usually 1.6 mm (1/16 inch).

Using the correct tire size ensures proper handling, stability, and safety. Incorrect tire size can affect the motorcycle's performance, handling characteristics, and may lead to unsafe riding conditions.
